  • Morphology It is larger and has longer legs, shorter tail and relatively larger ears in comparison to wild cats. A small tuft of black hairs emerges from the tip of both ears. The ears are black or brown on the back. The back is brownish yellow or yellowish grey. The belly is paler and white. The forelegs, tail show several black or brown rings or faint markings. The length of the body is 60 to 95 cm.
  • Ethology It is nocturnal and solitary. It rests in burrows, grass thickets and scrubs or in abandoned nests of animals such as fox and porcupine. It is an efficient swimmer, and can plunge into water to catch fish.
