- Morphology Body length:17 cm. Mostly heard rather than seen, it has a compact and dumpy body with chestnut black and white head, in the male, a white chin.
- Ethology In flight, it seems the same size as starling, and it has fast wing-beats. Often the only indication of its presence from where it is hidden, is the distinctive "wet-my-lips" or “pi pil it” repetitive song of the male.
