- Morphology Body length:33 cm. Moorhens are blackish with a red beak with a greenish-yellow tip, with white stripes on the flanks. In flight and swimming, the white sides to its under-tail is seen, and in flight, the white wing bar cannot be seen.
- Ethology It looks for food in emergent vegetation constantly. When swimming it keeps its head straight forward and swims strongly. When frightened, it is mostly seen on surface of water bodies.
